Crumbs Café – Heritage Restoration

Thanks to a Grant from the Boston Townscape Heritage Project, Clarke Group Construction Ltd were employed by the owner of Crumbs Café (6-8 Dolphin Lane) to regenerate the building and carry out essential repairs. After removal of the existing asbestos roof coverings, a new roof structure had to be constructed with the old structure being left in-situ due to its historical importance. The roof has been insulated and waterproofed to more modern standards, and the roof coverings renewed to something of what would have been on a building of that age. Rainwater goods have been replaced with cast iron and new ceilings were then installed to the main first floor seating area. With false rafters hiding the joints in the boarding it has helped to maintain the aged appearance of the room. New handmade vertical sliding sash timber windows were also provided and fitted along with a new hardwood external door and full re-decorations.

Crumbs Café is not a Listed Building but it is in the Boston Town Centre Conservation Area. Dolphin Lane, albeit originally being called something different, has existed since medieval times confirming the historical importance of this area of the Town.

Clarke Group Construction Ltd are beginning to get a name for themselves in the Heritage field of work and specialise in the restoration of old or historically important buildings as well as the construction of new build executive homes.

Testimonial

“I have been entirely satisfied with the workmanship carried out by Clarke Group Construction Ltd in the restoration of my property under the direction of Robin Alexander.

This has not been a straightforward job and the craftsmen have had to contend with unforeseen problems which they have rectified to a very high standard.

The completion of work is a credit to everyone who has been involved and I am delighted with the result.

I have every confidence in recommending the Clarke Group.”
